Distance Learning

TWA’s Distance Learning programs offer your students the opportunity to learn about, understand, and enjoy Texas wildlife, habitat, management, and conservation.

Distance Learning

Distance Learning programs are delivered LIVE via videoconferencing to your classroom/school/site.  Programs are TEKS aligned, INTERACTIVE, and include pre and/or post materials for your students.

We, as presenters, strive to keep the students engaged; every program is constantly interactive and allows the students the opportunity to ask the presenter questions during the program.

TWA strives to offer classes that fit your schedule.  Generally, we rotate through our program set, offering one program a week, 4 TIMES A DAY, with 4 sites capable of connecting per program.

Classes are 50 minutes in length at 9 am, 11 am, 12:45 pm, and 2 pm.

We encourage teachers to share the experience with their fellow teachers, and their students, but feel that sites with less than 50 students tend to get more out of the program.

ASI: Animal Skull Investigation!

TEKS Aligned for Grades 3-6

This interactive presentation allows students the opportunity to investigate skulls of native Texas animals.  Unique adaptive traits will be discussed and students will be asked to look for clues to determine the identity and feeding habits of our mystery specimens.  Our “Animal Adaptations” Discovery Trunk is a great in-class follow-up to this program!

Let’s Talk Turkey!

TEKS Aligned for Grades 3-6

This interactive presentation introduces students to fun facts about one of our state's most fabulous birds: THE WILD TURKEY!  We will discuss turkey anatomy and habitat as well as the various "calls" or vocalizations that turkeys make to communicate.  Students will listen to an assortment of calls and will receive a post activity teaching them how to make their own turkey calls!  A great November program!  Our “Let’s Talk Turkey” Discovery Trunk is a great in-class follow-up to this program!

Texas Critters!

TEKS Aligned for Grades 3-6

From the raccoon they see in their neighborhood, the nine-banded armadillo (the official Small Mammal of Texas), to the infamous Wild Turkey; your students will be intrigued while learning fun facts about these and other Texas critters.  Students will learn the differences between mammals and reptiles, carnivores and herbivores, habitats and adaptations, all the while looking at interactive visuals.  We will also discuss the human effect on animals; why and how we should maintain the animals’ environment.  Our “Texas Critters!” Discovery Trunk is a great in-class follow-up to this program!

More Than a Drop: Aquifers Uncovered!

TEKS Aligned for Grades 3-6

This interactive presentation opens students’ eyes to the various facets of water, from raindrops to aquifers.  Students will be challenged to think about where water comes from, how it got there, where it ends up, and how it is being used.  Students will have the opportunity to take part in a hands-on, comparative demonstration along with the presenter, to help them better understand water usage.  Our “More Than a Drop: Aquifers Uncovered!” Discovery Trunk is a great in-class follow-up to this program!

Elite Programs In the Works:

Scales and Trails: Basic & Advanced

Scales and TrailsTEKS Aligned for Grades 2-6

These presentations introduce students to SNAKES. We will discuss where they live, what they eat, how they survive in a busy world, and why they are important. Students will have the chance to see live snakes, up close and personal. Teachers will have the chance to provide questions and concepts for the instructor to discuss, prior to the class.  Don't miss out!

BATS: LIVE on the BIG screen!

TEKS Aligned for Grades 2-6

This interactive presentation allows students the opportunity to investigate the relationship between the anatomy and the ecology, including the dietary habits, of different species of bats.  LIVE bats will be used during the program!
