TWA Presents Wildlife and Natural Resources Seminar

Opportunities for South Texas Landowners:
Optimizing Soil Health for both Economic and Habitat Betterment

San Antonio, TX, February 11, 2022-

Texas Wildlife Association (TWA) presented in collaboration with the San Antonio Livestock Exposition (SALE) Wildlife Committee a wildlife and natural resources seminar today to kick off the San Antonio Stock Show & Rodeo. Located in the spectacular Director’s Club of the Freeman Coliseum, participants were treated to top-notch speakers on various topics ranging from soil health to quail management. The seminar was moderated by former TWA President Tina Buford of the East Foundation and participants were welcomed by Duane Westerman of the SALE Wildlife and Natural Resources Committee and Kristin Parma of the Texas Wildlife Association.

Speakers included National Center for Appropriate Technology (NCAT) Sustainable Agriculture Specialists and Project Coordinator Kara Kroeger, who urged attendees to get their hands a little dirty and gave tips on evaluating soil health. Associate Professor & Research Scientist King Ranch® Institute for Ranch Management Jason E. Sawyer Ph.D. addressed liability and risks for landowners to consider in regards to carbon sequestration. Dr. Randy W. DeYoung and Dr. Humberto Perotto of the Caesar Kleberg Wildlife Research Institute discussed habitat conditions and quality as well as population updates on whitetail deer, quail, and turkey and technological advancements in acquiring information in the field.
